Bye-Bye Walleye but Early Spring Bite is On

The final spring frost may have occurred in NE Iowa so the Mississippi River can find its rhythm of water levels and rising water temperature.
Walleye goodbye after spawning.  Give them a couple of weeks to rest.
Flathead Catfish will be good from Mother's day to Father's day.  (For Some species, Father's Day is very confusing)

Under the Big Walleye- Tent Sale-Good Fishing-Turkey Hunting

Bob  is in his highest gear (and that's fast) Come to the big tent sale at Murray Outdoors on the South End of Guttenberg.

Spawn Is On! Big Walleye. Free Larry

The Iowa DNR says the Walleye spawn has begun and Bob Urbain confirms as he is out most evenings.  Big Females caught and released, tell the tale.
The temps are rising as the river is at a perfect level.
Big Tent Sale and fish fry coming on April 11-14,  Big discounts and $2,000 in drawing prizes.  
Guest appearance today by Catfish Moran.  Free Larry movement is getting support.  Aircraft hired.
Flowers and vegetables will be out at tent weekend with discounts.
Roberta will also appear.  They too is a child of God.,

Rising Water - Rising Temps - Good Fishing

A two foot rise in the Upper Mississippi is expected in the coming week.  Water temp at 42 will go up.  At 50, hang on.
Bob has a big tent sale on April 11-14.  Timing should be perfect.  Big fish Fry as well.
He is installing an extra aisle in store.  Same width as Airline Seats.  Smear up with vaseline as you enter...

A Little Fishing - A Lot of Bull Frog

If you want to fish, the water is open with a gentle breeze and a white dusting of the shoreline.  Not really, the weather is not cooperating at the moment.
Bob is full of himself this week (or was that Ken) well the two have a pretty good routine that includes a discussion of the upcoming Frog and Toad Survey from Iowa DNR.  ID Frog Calls and Jeremiah makes an appearance.

Early Season Fishing Still Strong

The year may be three weeks ahead of normal.  Open Water and good bite on perch, walleye, sauger.
Larry talks rigs for crappie and perch.  
We found a fisherman who fished in all ninety-nine Iowa Counties in three years.
Bob is busy...He ruined the sound track several times.

Giant Perch Invasion - Fishermen Hauling out Monsters!

OK, Perch aren't whales but these ring perch (yellow perch) are huge and they are in a pre spawn bite that has people lining up to be the first on the fishing barge below the dam at Guttenberg. (Open daily 7 am to 5 pm)
Bob is heading to the Eastern Iowa Sports Show that starts this afternoon (Friday, March 8) and runs through Sunday afternoon.  In the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls  Admission is $10 for adults.
Ken has a brilliant idea that Bob shoots down.

Brave the Weather - Fish and You Shall Catch

The February Summer has been interrupted by Winter.  However, if you can brave the wind and cold, the fish are biting.  We check with The Landing Barge that is below Lock and Dam 10 at Guttenberg. ($20 per person.  Open 7-5 Daily.  See Jamie at Gas Dock)

Mississippi is Ice Free - Fishing is Moderate - Midwest Walleye Challenge

Bob Urbain will be at the State Fairgrounds 4-H building in Des Moines this weekend for a Swap Meet and Sport Show.  See him there Saturday and Sunday
He's been fishing on the big river all week and has fisherman's elbow to prove it.
Moderate fishing for walleye and perch.
Midwest Walleye Challenge is greatly expanded this year.  Jeff Kopaska has details.  It can be a free entry and prizes given.  Runs from March 30 to June 30.  Interview with Jeff is in the show.
