Fish Love Floods We Don’t HTB 4-28-23

The Big Walleye is still above water at Murray Bait and Tackle on the South Side of Guttenberg.  The big river is running full as we wait for the flood to recede.

Bob Urbain and I talk about the Mississippi River that has crested at 21 feet.  That would be the third highest in modern times.  Everyone is waiting for the water to go down but that could be awhile.

Meanwhile, we talk with Jeff Kopaska at Iowa DNR about what fish do when spring flooding occurs.  Normally, he says, the next age group of fish are larger in number and healthier.  "Fish love Floods!"

Widowmaker Lures has a new jig on the market:  A field tested glittering tungsten minnow and Murray's has all the colors.

The Walleye Challenge Fishing Tournament is for everyone who wants to use their cell phone to enter and log the Walleye, Sauger and Large Mouth Bass they catch in May and June.  Lots of prizes.  Really a service to DNR biologists and a fun way to compete.

If you want to measure your fish in the boat, Murray's has some neat devices.  Dan Sawyer (works Mondays) lays out what is on the shelf.  Up to 60 inches if you need it!

Finally, Murray's has its Flower and Garden section stocked full.  Open 6-5 daily. 6-3 on Sundays.
